The Sovtek 5881WXT Power Vacuum Tube is a rugged, military-standard beam tetrode often used as a direct replacement or stock power tube in 6L6 and 5881 guitar amplifiers. [1, 2, 3]
Key Features & Specifications
Type: Power beam tetrode (historically derived from the Russian 6P3S-E / 6Π3C-E military-grade tube). [1, 2]
Base: Full-size octal 8-pin base designed for easy installation in vintage and modern amplifier sockets (distinguishing it from the small-disc base of the standard 5881/6L6WGC). [1, 2]
Durability: Built to rigid military specifications, offering high resistance to microphonics and a strong tolerance for higher plate and screen voltages than many traditional 6L6 types. [1, 2, 3]
Common Rebranding: Frequently relabeled and used as original equipment by major manufacturers—including Fender (as Groove Tubes GT-6L6B or Fender-branded tubes) and Mesa Boogie (STR425). [1, 2]
Sound Profile: Delivers a warm, round, and balanced tone with a clean, well-defined low end. It is known as a reliable workhorse for high-gain crunch, overdrive, and setups utilizing outboard rack effects, though it is generally considered less harmonically rich for pure, direct plug-in clean or jazz styles.
