The Genalex Gold Lion ECC83 / B759 (12AX7) is a high-performance dual-triode vacuum preamp tube prized for its large, detailed soundstage, low noise floor, and warm, balanced sonic profile. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Key Characteristics & Variations
Gold-Pin Version (B759 / ECC83): Manufactured at the Reflector factory in Russia, this flagship reissue replicates the internal design and sonic signature of vintage 1960s Mullard-built Gold Lions. It features gold-plated pins for superior connectivity and is known for tight triode balance, low microphonics, and rich mid-range clarity. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Standard Non-Gold-Pin Version (ECC83 / 12AX7): A more affordable short-plate alternative manufactured in China featuring slightly different gain characteristics (comparable to Sino 12AX7B). As discussed by audio enthusiasts on AudioKarma, non-gold pin stocks were a limited production run. [1, 2, 3]
